Charvet, Les Savages de la Mer Pacifique (The Savages of the Pacific Ocean), wall paper printed by Joseph Dufour in Macon, France, 1804-5, / A variety of islands and peoples appear here, based on French (Bougainville) and English accounts of the South Seas in the late 18th century. Cook?s death on Hawaii is shown in the third panel. According to the museum web site, ?The manufacturer, Joseph Dufour, issued a pamphlet at the time of the wallpaper's release explaining that the peaceful, idyllic scenes were intended ?to reveal the natural bonds of taste and enjoyment that exist between all men.?
